Myrtis ride. Photo by Tom Sheehan.
In conjunction with the GCC Oleno picnic Saturday January 28, Strays will
meet at the main parking lot in Oleno State Park for a 27 -
28 mile ride to Itchetucknee Springs south entrance and back to
Oleno. This ride will be entirely on the new paved bike path which runs from the
entrance of Oleno State park, to Ft. White and then to the
Itchetucknee River.
Your ride leader will be Velvet Yates, an experienced
Strays member.
Meet at 8:55 am for a 9:10
departure.
Typical average ride speed for the Strays in recent times
have been about 13 mph, this ride is entirely flat.
Because this is a bike path with only one possible track, it is virtually
impossible to get lost, so it is possible to ride at any speed, however to stay
with the group you will need to be able to do the average speed.
There will be several rest room / convenience
store opportunities on this ride. There are three convenience stores in
Ft. White close to the trail. The ranger at Itchetucknee park has, in the
past, consented to the use of the restroom in his gate hut for the rider in
imminent need.
Post ride, Strays will assemble at the Oleno picnic area to test chili and
consume mass quantities, as typical.
No pace lines, no wheel sucking, no racing, just a fun social ride.
Helmets are REQUIRED on all Strays rides, mirrors
recommended, headphones forbidden.
Safety protocols are always observed on Strays
rides.
If you have not ridden with the Strays before, please read this.

(All calls are screened, if you identify yourself as a club member and I am
home, I will pick up)
PS: I will be there for the picnic, but will be riding off road with
Chandler, rather than on pavement.
If you have never been to Oleno State Park before:
From the intersection of I-75 and 222 (NW 39th Ave) travel north on I-75
for 9 miles. Exit I-75 at exit 399 (US 441 & 41). Travel west
(right) on 441 - 41, thru High Springs, for 12 miles to the entrance
to Oleno State Park. The entrance to the park will be on the right. The main
parking lot is about 1.5 miles in to the park, from the
entrance.
