The campaign to stop a
proposed cut-through road between NW 39th Ave and Millhopper Road
continues. Before implementing a cut-through road, which would dump
hundreds of additional cars onto Millhopper, the Alachua county commissioners
are being asked to consider a greenway proposal. The greenway would be a linear
park, providing a wildlife corridor, a recreational opportunity for joggers,
walkers, and cyclists, and a non-motorized transportation alternative. The
county owns the right-of-way, and the SpringHills developer has offered to
contribute to the cost. The county is being urged to build the greenway first,
and consider a cut-through road, if needed, in the future. The hope is
that the greenway will be very popular, and any subsequent efforts to
develop a cut-through road would continue to be met with community
resistance.
Your help is needed! Even
if you have already voiced opposition to the cut-through road, you are now
asked to express support for the linear greenway park. If you live outside the
Millhopper area, but use Millhopper for cycling, your participation is needed,
because the greenway park needs to be viewed as a community resource. Please
consider the following:
If the greenway is to succeed (and the road to be
delayed or stopped), interest in the issue must continue. The more people who
express an opinion, the better the chances. Your help is
appreciated!
Thanks. Lee and Tony Ross
