North Rides
MEET: At the Chevron station on the corner of NW 43rd
St and 53rd Ave.
PARK: In the
Chevron station, along NW 43rd St. Start at the north end and work
south. Do not park in the slots alongside the station or along NW 53rd Ave. DO NOT use the business lots east
of the Chevron on Saturdays. Overflow parking is along the short east-west street south of the station.
Please watch where you are standing; do not block the flow of traffic
going to the pumps.
TIME: Meet at 8 am, ride briefing and
introductions at 8:10, depart by 8:15.
THE PLAN: Ride to the GCC Summer Picnic at
Fanning Springs, 44 miles. Have your spouse, significant other, or friend
meet you at Fanning Springs to give you a ride home (they can do one of the
rides from there, or just swim and eat). Or you can brave the 90+ degree
temps for the ride back to Gainesville (44 miles, total 88).
Chandler says: Chandler will be
cooking hamburgers and hot dogs (all beef hot dogs!). Please e-mail me
at: chanbike@xxxxxxx to let
me know if you prefer hamburgers or hot dogs (or both) so I will know how
many dogs to catch and how many cows to grind up. Club
members are asked to bring a side dish, salad or desert to round out our feast.

About The Gliders
The Gliders are a group that strives to maintain
high training speeds over moderate distances and maintain the integrity of the
group. The average speed of our rides generally will fall between 18 and
19.5 mph. We will sometimes
have a Power Glider group that will average up to 20.5 mph. You must be
capable of holding these speeds for three to four hours in order to stay with
the group. On most rides, we stop once at a store. If
there are more than 15 riders who will participate in the pace line, please
form two groups. For full
information about the group, visit our web page.
To participate, you must sign the safety pledge, wear a helmet,
be able to change a flat tire, and have a capable road bike. You can agree to the safety pledge
on our web site.
If
you are not a club member, you can print a membership form from our web site.
If you have not recently done so, you should read the Riding Tips page on our web site.
A Note About Time
You
should be ready to ride when you arrive at the ride start point. If you
need extra time to assemble your bicycle, get dressed, or eat breakfast, plan
to arrive before the scheduled meeting time. Gather around the ride leader at
about five minutes before the scheduled departure time for the route briefing and
introductions. If you are unable to make the gathering, let the ride
leader know that you are present before the ride departs.
