Obesity invites you to attend a Health Policy and
Fitness Fair Friday, May 16th from 2:00-4:00
PM in the Rayburn Foyer and pick up your copy of
their new Congressional Call to Action. Stop by
the Rayburn Foyer and learn what Congress can do
to reverse the obesity epidemic what you can do
improve your personal health.
At this event, the Campaign to End
Obesity will release a report entitled, “A Call to
Action: What Congress can do to address the
obesity epidemic in 2008 and beyond” that has been
developed with input from a wide range of
organizations – many of whom will be available at
the event to discuss policy recommendations and
answer questions.
There are many tangible, high-impact
steps that federal policymakers can take to
advance obesity prevention and intervention.
The report highlights what can be done in a wide
range of policy areas including education,
finance, transportation, agriculture,
appropriations, healthcare, and research. It
takes into account current political and financial
challenges and opportunities before Congress and
highlights the areas in which Congress could
realistically act in 2008 and beyond.
The event will feature opportunities
for people to learn more about their personal
health such as blood pressure measurement, stress
management, and body fat analysis. It will
also feature information and demonstrations from a
wide range of organizations who are helping
America end the obesity epidemic including the
American Cancer Society, American College of
Gastroenterology, American Diabetes Association,
American Dietetic Association, American Heart
Association, Center for Science in the Public
Interest, DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance,
First Focus, Healthcare Leadership Council,
International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub
Association, National Association of Chronic
Disease Directors, National Association for Sport
and Physical Education, National Coalition for
Promoting Physical Activity, Safe Routes to School
National Partnership, Shaping America’s Health,
