be holding a briefing on U.S. childhood obesity
prevention and the IMPACT Act on Wednesday, June
11th from 4:00 - 5:00pm in 122 Cannon House Office
Building. Presenters include Eduardo
Sanchez, M.D., M.P.H., Director, Institute of
Health Policy, School of Public Health, University
of Texas Health Science Center, Austin; Christina
Economics, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, New Balance
Chair in Childhood Nutrition; Gerald J. and
Dorothy Friedman, School of Nutrition Science and
Policy, Tufts University; and Taryn Nader,
Legislative Assistance, Office of Congresswoman
Mary Bono Mack (R-CA). The briefing will be
moderated by Susan Blumenthal, M.D., M.P.A. former
U.S. Assistant Surgeon General, Department of
Health and Human Services.

The Council of the Obesity
Society has issued a resolution which
concludes that "it is the official position of the
Obesity Society that obesity should be declared a
disease. The Obesity Society will henceforth refer
to obesity as a disease and encourages others to
do so." The resolution and a while paper,
