Campaign to End Obesity:
Obesity Prevention and Treatment
Federal-State Workshop
March 20, 2009 – Fifty
organizations ranging from public health and
medical societies to insurers and drug and device
manufacturers gathered earlier today in the
Capitol to discuss programs from around the
country that are working in schools, communities,
and the health care delivery system to help reduce
obesity. Key Senate and House staff involved
in the congressional health care policy debates
moderated the half-day session focused on
identifying what the federal government can do to
support local public and private initiatives and
remove barriers prohibiting further success.
The Campaign to End Obesity, Trust
for America’s Health, the Healthcare Leadership
Council, Arena Pharmaceuticals, the College of
Gastroenterology and Shaping America’s Health were
just a few of the organizations with
representatives at the event today. Please
look for additional information about the workshop
next week as we will be circulating a full report
at that time.
