The Campaign to End Obesity,
in Partnership with Discovery Health and Humana,
Inc, Release Public Service Announcement on
Childhood Obesity
WASHINGTON,
DC
- The Campaign to End Obesity today rolled out a
public service announcement on the Discovery
Health networks to raise
awareness about one of the most
troubling health epidemics currently facing the
United
States
– childhood obesity.
Unfortunately, there is far too
little awareness surrounding the issue and the
problem continues to get worse. In fact,
“Pediatricians warn that heart disease may soon
become a pediatric illness. They also warn that
this generation of children may be the first to
have shorter lives than their parents. That's not
the future anybody wants. We want healthy, happy
kids who get the food and exercise they need to
become healthy, happy adults,” said Michael B.
McCallister, President & CEO, Humana Inc. –
which has a representative on the Campaign to End
Obesity’s Board of Directors.
The 30-second video, which is
scheduled to air on the Discovery family of
networks, urges parents, teachers,
community leaders, medical professionals and
others to take action to help reduce dangerously
high rates of obesity American children. As
the
PSA
itself highlights, one out of every five children
in the
United
States
suffers from being overweight or obese.
