Greetings:

Skype has gotten me back into roleplaying. I use Skype, rather than Google Hangouts, as I am on two podcasts (SF Signal and The Three Hoarsemen, with guest appearances on other shows) and we use Skype on those, so it was just a default.

Several months ago I started running Call of Cthulhu again with a group of "Twitter friends". After a multi-session scenario, one of the players wanted to try a hand, so we're about to finish a "season" of Ashen Stars. We'll then rotate back to Call of Cthulhu, but I've threatened to revive either Traveller or 2300 (or RuneQuest or...you get the idea).

There are a couple of online tools that people use (look for a podcast called Total Party Kill, part of The Incomparable Network as an example), but we're just using dice, visual description and the like. For the Call of Cthulhu games, I've sent PDF's from scans or PDF-ready files that Chaosium sells, but overall we're avoiding use of cameras, online maps and the like. Some of our players are on dial-up (yes, they still exist!), so I'm afraid if I employ too many of these tools we'll overwhelm the dial-up connection.

Good stuff, it's gotten me back from armchair reading about games to gaming again.

Hey Folks,
You've probably heard about the sequential snowstorms in New England. They've been irritating. Fairly high up my list is that they tend to snow in Mondays, which is my gaming night. >_<
After three nights were canceled in a row, we broke down and fired up a Google Hangouts and managed to get a few hours in. The point they were at in the game suited it well. They were conducting an operation by a bunch of mercenaries, Lt. Gorman style. So scribbling positions on a top-down map while the players debated tactics over video worked well.
Depending on how people have dug out, we may cancel AGAIN this week. If we do, I'm short a scenario that'll work well on camera.
Has anyone done remote gaming like this? What sort of scenarios worked for you? Any suggestions?
        Cheers,
            Jo
