Mystery image of C/1965 S1 (Ikeya-Seki) Nick James 23 Oct 2022 15:12 UTC

I was going through some box files in the Comet Section archive
yesterday and I came across a photo of Comet Ikeya-Seki from 1965 which
I had not seen before. There were no details on the print other than the
word "McClure?" on the back and there was no context that might have
heped identify it. Alan McClure was one of the best amateur comet
imagers of the time. He certainly obtained images of this comet from
Mount Pinos in California but I don't think that this is his.

Astrometry.net is a great tool and the comet's position shows that this
photo was taken on the morning of 1965 November 2 around 02:30 UT. The
time is wrong for California and I think this was actually taken in
southern Africa.

Please let me know if you have seen this image anywhere else and if you
have any information on who the photographer was.

Nick.
