Job Description

Length:

Full time, 47 week position

Location:

San Francisco, CA, (National Park Service regional office)

Living Allowance:

$510/weekly;

Health insurance provided if desired

AmeriCorps Award:

Stewards are eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of the program. The value of the education award (pre-tax) is $6,095

Educational Level:

Ages 21 – 30 with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Start Date:

Feb 2, 2020, with some flexibility

Developmental Support:

$4,500 available to support  professional development

Student Loans:

Student loan forbearance during the term of service (where qualified)

Position Details

Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the National Park Service are seeking an intern who will support the Interpretation and Education Division of the San Francisco Regional Office.

This Interpretation, Education, Volunteer, and Youth (IEVY) Program Fellow will take part in a 47-week-long program in support of projects and locations where the National Park Service, San Francisco Regional Office, Interpretation and Education Division along with Youth and Volunteer Programming are providing technical assistance.

The IEVY position will provide support for education, job training, development of responsible citizenship, productive community involvement, and furthering the understanding and appreciation for natural and cultural resources through the involvement of youth and young adults in care and enhancement of public resources.

The IEVY Fellow will gain an opportunity that includes efforts to engage young people in projects that support community-led natural resources conservation and outdoor recreation projects. The intern will gain project management skills from a broad range of programs that support the Pacific West regional priority, Connections with New and Diverse Audiences. Participants will perform a variety of duties related to Interpretation and Education, Youth and Volunteer programming, projects, and activities, which may include programs including Every Kid Outdoors, Teacher Ranger Teacher, Urban Agenda, Youth Projects and Agreements, administrative duties in support of REGIONAL Youth and Volunteer Programs, inventory and analysis of statistics for Play Learn Serve Work.

The IEVY Fellow position will engage youth in community-based work and offer internships and training, all of which expose youth to the importance of parks and conservation programs which may lead to potential career opportunities in cultural and natural resource conservation. In turn, participants will add value by helping staff and partners cultivate strong relationships as participants in community-based projects.

Position Responsibilities will include:

The member will focus on the following main projects:

  • Developing a Youth and Volunteer Google Site for the NPS Region, San Francisco
    • Manage, evaluate and develop website resources
    • Develop an accessible file system
  • Support Regional Youth and Volunteer programs
    • Inventory and analysis of Volunteer Managers and Youth Managers of statistics for Final reporting
    • Gather field success stories within all 64 park units
    • Assist with management and support of programs and events such as Every Kid in a Park (EKIP) events, special funding-related events, Urban Agenda activities, Teacher Ranger Teacher, etc.
  • Strengthen systems for regional management of youth and volunteer programming , including budget allocations, research, recruitment, and reporting
  • Build NPS collaboration and community with the Regional Office, Regional Networks and park units.
  • Coordinate Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Summit
    • Work with Bay Area YCC programs to implement YCC specific professional development opportunity for YCC crew participants and crew leaders.
  • Enforce and Adhere to NPS, Conservation Legacy, and AmeriCorps’ policies and regulations.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Be able to pass a federal background check
  • Possess a valid Driver's License
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Possess basic computer skills (particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Suite) and the ability to learn new programs
  • Ability to travel and work independently; take a high level of initiative
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities
  • Understand the importance of diversity and inclusion
  • Ability to work remotely and be able to communicate effectively with individuals by phone and email
  • Submit quarterly and final reports to Stewards Program
