SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST (SPECIALIST) – BOATING AND WATERWAYS DIVISION / AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES BRANCH / FLOATING AQUATIC VEGETATION PROGRAM

 

The reporting location for this position is One Capitol Mall, Sacramento.  This position will work under the direction of the Environmental Program Manager I.

 

The Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) (Senior ES) provides scientific advice, guidance, leadership, timely and highly developed scientific work products to the Division of Boating and Waterways, Aquatic Invasive Species Branch Manager, Field Supervisors, scientists, specialists and technicians. The Senior ES will apply scientific methods and principles for analyzing and evaluating data for the Floating Aquatic Vegetation Control Program, which includes, but is not limited to, Water Hyacinth, South American Spongeplant, and Uruguay Water Primrose. Coordinate the preparation and filing of regulatory compliance documents and assist in the preparation, filing and acquisitioning any necessary permits from regulatory agencies for the Aquatic Invasive Plant Control Programs. The incumbent performs a variety of responsible, professional, scientific office and field work as outlined in the classification specification and will be assigned lead technical responsibility.  A high degree of political acumen is expected from the incumbent.  This position requires regular travel within California, and periodic travel outside of California.
