Subject: Fwd: Ravenna Grass Oregon Risk Assessment Request for Info

Hello CalWeedTalk,

The Oregon Department of Agriculture is working on a risk assessment for Ravenna grass and looking for information from anyone who works on it. It’s mostly in Yolo, Lake and Imperial Counties in California.  Please write to Mark Porter if you have any information.

Colleagues -

I am writing to request information regarding Ravenna Grass (Saccharum ravennae) .

The State of Oregon is writing a risk assessment to use in consideration for potential listing later this month.

We know of only a very little of this plant in Oregon but it is invasive where it does grow.  It appears that it has a very limited distribution across the west as well.  I would be grateful for any further  information about its distribution in Oregon.  It appears that it has a very limited distribution across the west as well.  Because it has been sold as an ornamental plant for many years it may turn up anywhere.

We are also hoping to get input from those who are familiar with the plant.  Information regarding its invasiveness, ease of detection and control measures.  Any other thoughts you may have regarding its biology or potential impacts would be much appreciated.

Please forward this to those you think might have some interest or knowledge.

I have attached a great identification sheet for Ravenna grass if you are not familiar with the plant (the source is currently unknown, but great thanks to the author).

Thank you for your time in advance!
