Weed Management Specialist -Sacramento, California. Triangle Properties. Application Filing Deadline: Open until filled. 

 

OBJECTIVE OF JOB: Provides support to Teichert’s Triangle Properties (Land Restoration) in the management and control of invasive/noxious weeds and herbivores in both natural open space and urban landscape settings. Also provides support in other various habitat restoration and landscape activities, including plant installation, irrigation installation, and site maintenance.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1) Develop and implement various weed management and herbivory control programs for a variety of sites, including active mines, reclamation, roadsides, sensitive habitats (i.e., wetlands), and urban landscapes. 2) Apply both pre- and post-emergent herbicides using backpack sprayers, power sprayers, and other appropriate application equipment and tools. Maintains all herbicide equipment and tools. 3) Work safely in rough terrain, inclement weather, and other environmental situations. Work extensively for long periods of time on various site conditions. 4) Record daily use of herbicides and oversee the daily reporting of co-workers. Maintain necessary records using computer spreadsheet. Prepare monthly Pesticide Use Reports for each County. 5) Manage herbicide inventory and container recycling program. Responsible for keeping herbicide storage area clean and in compliance with California Pesticide Regulation standards. 6) Research and remain current on the various herbicides and most effective treatments. Implement test plots and experiments to further research the most effective control methods for various sites/species. 7) Assist others in various restoration activities, including planting, seeding, irrigation, and site maintenance. 8) Reports directly to the Land Supervisor.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Job sites include uneven ground, steep slopes, exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity. Frequent bending and squatting throughout the day. Carrying loads of 30-40 pounds for extended periods, with occasional lifting of heavy loads up to 90 pounds. Frequently works alone in remote areas. Works occasionally on projects requiring overnight stays. 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Three years’ field experience in the management of noxious/invasive weeds in natural wildland settings. Valid CA driver’s license and good driving record. Possess the strength and agility to perform maintenance work in an outdoor setting for long periods. Willingness to do both strenuous and routine manual labor. Field leadership skills. Possession of Pesticide Applicator’s License or Certificate. Knowledge of rules, regulations, and safe practices for applying herbicides. Detailed knowledge of local weed species and common native plants.
