Here are some logistics for the MDOC training at Hurstwood on Sun 27th October.

Although I’ve sought provisional likely attendance, please could you confirm by Thu 24th whether you are attending as I have maps to print.

*Please also remember the clocks go back in the wee hours of Sun the 27th*

(this also means it’ll get dark around 16:45 rather than 17:45 the day before)

Parking:

Worsthorne Moor Car Park just outside Hurstwood village and below (W of) Hurstwood and Cant Clough Reservoirs

53°46'38.3"N 2°10'43.6"W

53.777316, -2.178771

Approx BB10 3LH

Note that there is a small price in the car park itself, but many people park just outside for free as long as they don’t block any access.

Meeting Point:

The SE end of Hurstwood Reservoir (E end of the dam)

Head  NE out of the car park and follow the track uphill below the reservoir until you arrive at the end of the Dam

Bring:

Waterproofs and warm clothes

Food and Drink

Note it is a reasonable distance down to the car and then back up for the 2nd session so you might want to bring everything up the hill.

Timings (approx):

11:00 – 12:30 at Hurstwood Dam for 1st session

13:30 – 15:00 at NW end of Cant Clough Reservoir for 2nd session

Cost:

Free to MDOC members; as PFO have sorted permissions and it is one of their areas I’ve also offered them the same deal.

Terrain:

Rough moorland with *lots* of intricate contour detail

Notes:

I’m seeing this as *technical* contour training, not physical training so we won’t be doing lots of running drills nor having any races.

The above timings are for a number of hours so remember to pace yourself.

If you do get totally lost/confused – then head back to our base and you can try again. We want to practice

Orienteering techniques and getting them right … not thrashing around till you find the control.

If you leave after the 1st session and don’t come back for the 2nd then you *must* let me know.

Cheers
