Hi all

It doesn't seem 2 minutes since our opening event in Hazel Grove, but the season's finale is now imminent. The final (?) overall scores tables for Series 9 will be published on the MDOC website very soon and it is time to send out the invite to our final event of the season - based at The Brocklehurst Arms, Tytherington, Macclesfield on Tuesday 10th March 2020.

As has become traditional over the last few years, this "Cup Final" event will have a slightly different format from our other events (but that hard-earned familiarity with street furniture control sites, including lamp posts(!) will definitely come in handy), and the winner on the night will receive "The Hydrant Trophy". Our statisticians are working tirelessly to ensure that everyone who competes has a very good chance of winning!

Once the excitement over the Hydrant Trophy has subsided, we shall be presenting the trophies and prizes based on the season's league tables. Additional trophies - to reward Improved Performance and Consistency (more work for the statisticians!) - will also be awarded. You don't necessarily have to be at the top of the league to win either of these trophies.

Over to Ian G (planner) for more details of next week’s event

Map: 1:10,000

The Competition Area is bounded to the west by the West Coast Main Line, to the south by the River Bollin, and to the east by the Silk Road.

To the west of Manchester Road, the 1980/90s estate either side of Dorchester Way is made of up of residential culs-de-sac, many of which are linked to adjacent roads by pedestrian routes. To the east of Manchester Road lies a 1960s estate, and to the northeast lies the Tytherington Industrial Estate which now has some housing around its edges (including an area currently under construction and therefore Out of Bounds).

Please also note the following :

1. We have added a new 'high tower' symbol to the map to  represent electricity pylons - so that competitors can navigate to controls along the Middlewood Way, and

2. The roads and paths within Beech Hall school are open to the public outside school hours.

Scoring – IMPORTANTEveryone runs for 60 minutes

Each control is worth 10 points, so controls are numbered from 101 to 145.

Penalties: 5 points per minute or part thereof.

Please note that west of Manchester Road most of the controls are lamp posts, there being few other NSL features there. We’ve taken care not to have LP controls next to each other on the clue sheet, but you will need to take care to write the answer in the correct box.
