An opportunity to do some (solo) orienteering
Some of you will have already tried a MapRun event but others won't be familiar with it.
Briefly, it uses GPS to identify the position of control sites and a smartphone app to detect, when running, when you are in the right place.
The
attached files provide all the information (I hope!) to enable you to
run, at a time to suit yourself (thus being able to comply with social
distancing rules), a maprun score event.
I
guess some of you may not know about score events. Rather than have a
defined course to be completed as quickly as possible, a score event has
a fixed allowable time (either 60 or 90 minutes in this case) in which
to visit controls, choosing your route. For this event there are two
options for scoring points - one a simple numbers of controls visited,
the other scoring points according to the value of the control. In both
cases points are deducted if you exceed the time limit.
Please
bear in mind, especially if you haven't tried one of our countryside
score events previously, that features on the ground may not always
match those on the map - the Ordnance Survey only update their maps
periodically.
Also, please read, mark, learn and obey the Participants Code of Conduct
