MDOC is hosting a REAL event on the evening of Wednesday 2nd September at Wythenshawe Park to test out our new pre-entry and contactless payment systems prior to the resumption of Saturday morning events later in the month. Here's your chance to give it a go and tell us how it went.

Compulsory pre-entry - £1 contactless payment for map on the day

The Covid-safe guidelines prepared by our governing body, British Orienteering, https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/COVID19_Safe_Orienteering recommend using a pre-entry system to control numbers and the flow of runners through the Start. Club member Ian Watson has prepared an easy-to-use online system to pre-register for our local events. This will be paired with contactless payment on the day to avoid handling cash, together with social distancing and hand hygiene provision.

Autumn Series co-ordinator Chris Rostron has incorporated these developments into a step-by-step MDOC protocol for both those running and those helping at an event, which we wish to try out at Wythenshawe Park using the MapRun courses (so no kites or SI boxes this time). To test the contactless card payment system, there will be a £1 charge for a printed map.

The BOF guidelines limit numbers going through the start to 40 per hour, so book your start slot soon!

Please send feedback on any aspect of the new system to: chair@mdoc.org.uk

Date: Wednesday 2nd September

Start times: 6.00pm to 7.00pm.

Book your map and start time now at: https://mdocentry.org.uk/

Pay contactless at the event for your map:  £1.00

MapRun courses:

Park only: Yellow 2.4 km; Orange 4.0 km; Light Green 7.0 km (standard orienteering map)

Park + urban: Red 5.4 km; Long Light Green 10.7 km (hybrid map combining standard orienteering map with Night Street League-style urban map)

Planner: River Edis-Smith with the help of Dave and Kate Bryant

As it is a MapRun event, you will need to have a smartphone to take part, download the MapRunF app and select the appropriate course at Wythenshawe which will be available from this Saturday from https://navvies.org.uk/SummerSeries.php  If you have not used MapRun before, see the 'Getting Started' section on the Navvies site.

The MapRun settings have been unlocked to allow those running the Orange and Yellow to see their whereabouts on the smartphone screen if they choose, making for two novice-friendly courses in a well-maintained, leafy park.

Thanks go to the park ranger for permission to use the park and to all those involved in organising the event.

All you have to do is pre-register, download your course on MapRun, turn up, pay in a contactless way, get to the Start on time and enjoy your run.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
