Have a say in what your orienteering club does Marie Roberts 06 Sep 2020 16:05 UTC

Dear MDOC members,

Would you like to help shape the direction of orienteering in your local
area? Maybe you want us to do more for families or schools; maybe you
would like us to put on events in new areas, or maybe you'd like to
influence how the club manages a particular aspect of the sport.

The club's committee comprises a core group of 16 members, who are
elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. Together, they decide
which events to put on and how to operate them, as well as arranging
other activities such as mapping, training and social events. This year,
three members are stepping down, in addition to an existing vacancy
(Vice Chair), and we desperately need new blood to help carry the sport
forward in these challenging times. Would you be interested  in putting
your name forward for the committee? If so, please contact me
(chair@mdoc.org.uk) or Tony Wagg (secretary@mdoc.org.uk) by 30th September .

This year, the club's AGM will take place virtually via Zoom at 7.30pm
on Thursday 15th October. Election and voting will be live on the night
but proposals will be circulated in advance to allow those who cannot
attend to vote by proxy if they wish.

In addition to the elected committee there are opportunities for
co-opted members or to join a sub group such as fixtures, mapping,
performance, marketing or membership services. Don't forget - all
members are welcome to attend committee meetings, which take place 11
times a year, usually on the second Monday of the month, currently by Zoom.

Our thanks go to the three members who are stepping down:

Club Treasurer, Alan Ogden, leaves the committee at the end of a
three-year term. We have been fortunate to have a couple of expressions
of interest in his role.

Pete Lomas is also stepping down as a full committee member after an
amazing 42 years of service to MDOC. He is also a founder member of
GMOA. Pete wishes to continue to supervise our equipment stores. We will
be honouring his long service at the AGM.

Ian Gilliver is also stepping down and has suggested that a new role be
created to drive forward the management and development of our map
assets, a project which his diligence has given a strong foundation. For
further details, please contact me or Ian.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
