Steve --

Today, we saw something deeply disturbing on Facebook, while searching "Move to Amend":

"This search may be associated with a dangerous conspiracy movement called QAnon. Experts say QAnon and the violence it inspires are a significant risk to public safety."

While we at Move to Amend agree that QAnon is a dangerous movement that is fueling disinformation, hate, and violence -- we cannot comprehend how an 11-year old organization that is fighting for democracy, peace, and human/environmental rights could possibly be associated with them. We absolutely are not.

This isn't new.

In other social media platform "sweeps" that have happened on Facebook, Reddit and YouTube -- ostensibly to root out disinformation and hate speech -- many grassroots left-wing/progressive organizers, journalists and international media outlets have been arbitrarily(?) included and are now gone, with little to no explanation.

This is scary!

PLEASE make sure you're sharing the Motion to Amend petition far and wide, so that we are not dependent on these corporate-owned platforms to reach our supporters and you community, and please continue organizing the movement for the #WeThePeopleAmendment.

In the meantime, we will be reaching out to Facebook in hopes of getting this corrected.

But we don't have high expectations that there will be any resolution, or that we will not be seeing more and more weaponization of corporate censorship to shut down anyone and everyone effectively organizing against corporate rule.

At this time we will continue to maintain our Facebook and other social media pages, because they are essential for reaching new people in this day and age, but we will also continue to organize with people directly, without supporting these channels.

If you don't use Facebook because of your concerns with the company, good on you, we totally understand why -- but remember that millions of people do and we have to reach them with our message too. But you can help us by organizing with Move to Amend outside of platforms like Facebook.

And of course we want to de-platform fascism and hate. But it's all meaningless if it's at the cost of democracy and free speech.

In solidarity,

Milly, Kaitlin, Shelly, Alfonso, Daniel, Jennie, Leila, Saleem, Jason, Tara, George, Joni, Greg, Jessica, Keyan
