Good day all and apologies in advance for cross posting.

Launching Your Star Potential: Leadership for Today's Libraries
An ALCTS Virtual Midwinter Symposium
January 9 – 13, 2012

Time is running out to take advantage of this unique opportunity to "attend" the first ALCTS virtual Midwinter Symposium from January 9 to 13, 2012.  Using the webinar format, with one 60 minute presentation per day, an outstanding team of speakers will help attendees understand and apply the principles of effective leadership and prepare them to assume leadership roles throughout the organization.

The introductory webinar will be presented by Adam Goodman, the director of the Center for Leadership at Northwestern University and a faculty member in the McCormick School of Engineering & Applied Science.  Dr. Goodman's experience in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors, including ALA, makes him ideally qualified to address the subject of leadership in today's libraries.

Presentations by Pamela Sandlian Smith, Mary Page, Erica Findley (ALCTS’ 2012 Emerging Leader), and Maureen Sullivan (ALA President-Elect) will examine leadership from a variety of perspectives, demonstrating that leadership is multi-dimensional and that leadership skills are transferrable across all types and sizes of libraries.

The virtual symposium will conclude with a presentation by James Hilton, Vice President & Chief Information Officer at the University of Virginia.  Dr. Hilton, who gave an inspiring and fast-paced presentation at the 2007 ALCTS Midwinter Symposium, will outline how all librarians can lead effectively in the world of constant change.

We invite all staff at all levels of the organization and in all types and sizes of libraries to take advantage of this series of webinars.  Special group rates are being offered.  For complete details about the virtual midwinter symposium and for registration information, see

We look forward to your participation in early January!

PS:  After registering for the symposium if you aren’t able to join in the live broadcasts, you will receive links to access the recordings at your convenience.
