LAC Group seeks a Cataloger to work on a multi-year contract at a Federal government agency located in Washington, DC.  This is full-time, benefited position on a multi-year contract for a cataloger to support the agency’s cataloging and other technical services initiatives.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Create original bibliographic records following AACR2, MARC21 and internal guidelines in ILS (Aleph 500)

·         Edit bibliographic records following AACR2 and MARC21, and internal guidelines in ILS

·         Assign Library of Congress Subject Headings and authorized name authorities to records in ILS

·         Perform research to determine if a new NACO (name authority) is required

·         Perform copy cataloging from OCLC under the supervision of a senior cataloger

·         Create serial pattern records in ILS

·         Perform quality control on digitized images

·         Compile metrics for reporting purposes

·         Prepare written documents under the supervision client

·         Work on a variety of assignments using WORD, Excel, or other PC applications

·         Other assignments for team projects working with both para-professional and professional library staff

·         Prepare written weekly reports of project activity

 

Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution

·         Minimum three years work experience in library technical services operations, specifically a cataloging unit, including experience using a comparable ILS system

·         Minimum three years work experience cataloging, original and copy cataloging, serials and monographs in print and electronic formats

·         Minimum 5 years progressively responsible experience in a library setting, preferably a large academic library setting

·         Work experience with U.S. Federal documents, preferably in a Federal depository library

·         Strong skills in the use of ILS and other office computer applications

·         Ability to work effectively with para-professionals, library professionals and agency personnel

·         Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

·         CONSER trained or certified, preferred
