The Continuing Resources Standards Update Forum presents the latest news on standards and best practices affecting the management of continuing resources at American Library Association conferences. The session is presented by the ALA ALCTS Continuing Resources Section, Continuing Resources Standards Committee and generously sponsored by Swets.

Regina Romano Reynolds, Director of the US ISSN Center at the Library of Congress
"ISSN, FRBR and RDA: harmonies and dissonances." Can RDA, ISSN, ISBD make beautiful music together? Learn about “harmonizing” discordant notes so there’s one ISSN per bibliographic record and one record per ISSN. Regina Reynolds will discuss steps being considered to resolve or mitigate the areas currently not harmonized.

As web resources are created, updated, deleted, or moved, web applications face challenges to remain in lockstep with the repository's change dynamics. Several approaches exist to help meet this challenge for use cases where "good enough" synchronization is acceptable. But when more rigorous synchronization, closer to real-time, is required commonly accepted Web-based solutions remain illusive. Motivated by the need to synchronize resources for applications in the realm of cultural heritage and research communication, NISO and the Open Archives Initiative have recently launched the ResourceSync project that aims at designing an approach for resource synchronization, which is aligned with the Web Architecture and that has a fair chance of adoption by different communities. This talk will discuss some use cases and will provide a perspective on the resource synchronization problem that resulted from initial discussions.
