The ALCTS Cataloging & Classification Research Interest Group seeks speakers to present at ALA Midwinter in Chicago on Sunday, February 1st, 2015 from 10:30 to 11:30 am.

Full presentations should be about 15-20 minutes long. Audience questions and discussion will be encouraged after the presentations. Brief 5 to 10 minute summaries of less extensive projects or research in progress will also be considered. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

•  Research on user contributed metadata (such as folksonomies, tagging, keyword contributions)

•  Research, surveys or studies on discovery layer catalogs

•  Research on cataloging using multiple schema, formats, and standards

•  Research on best practices in non-book cataloging for a new generation catalog

• Research on evidence-based decision making for cataloging and classification

 

• Research on innovative ways of recruiting/training non-traditional catalogers in a time of budget cuts and reduced full time cataloging staff

•  Research on alternatives to the MARC format

•  Research on cataloging of non-traditional materials in RDA environment

 

Please email proposal abstracts to co-chairs by Friday, October 31st, 2014. Please include the following: 

 

•  Presentation title

•  A brief (1 page or less) summary of the focus of the proposed presentation

•  Stage of project completion by January 2015

•  Amount of time needed to make the presentation

•  Names and positions of presenter(s)

•  Email address(es) of presenter(s)
