Several years ago our Psychology Department asked us to get all of their journals (not just APA journals) in an online-only format whenever possible.  We already had PsycARTICLES (with perpetual access) so that took care of access to the APA journals and we cancelled the print subscriptions.

The only psychology journal we still receive in print is Psychology Today.  We have kept the older print psychology journals for the time being as we have shelving space for them.

A number of other departments have also requested that we provide their journals in the online-only format when possible so our print journal list is slowly but very steadily decreasing.

Thanks to everyone who answered my $3 question. Onto the next one:

Our APA journals went up by roughly 9% in price from 2015 to 2016. Print-only format, and that’s the only format option available from the subscription agent.

The electronic content for these titles is available in PsycARTICLES on EBSCOhost. I would normally treat PsycARTICLES as an aggregator but our 2007 signed license indicates perpetual access. I know that’s unusual for a database, but it’s right there in black and white.

This leads me to want to knock the print APA journals off the annual renewal and rely solely on PsycARTICLES. Anybody else run into this? And if so, how did you proceed? We wouldn’t withdraw the bound volumes we already have, but we’d cancel the current subscriptions to the print.
