We aren’t doing anything here at UMKC. But I did find this policy from the California Digital Library: http://www.cdlib.org/services/collections/openaccess.html. It looks like they add a 793 field, which is generally indexed in title (and sometimes keyword) indexes so it could be searchable depending upon your ILS.

Subject: [SERIALST] Open Access Journals

Hello!

This might be a question for catalogers, but I am wondering what other libraries do with their open access serials records? Do you write something different in the 856 to identify open access journals? Or is there a local field where you would enter this information?

We are seeing some of our journal subscriptions move to open access, and I would like to know what the best practices are for maintaining OA journals in the catalog. Any insight would be helpful.

Thank you,

Amanda
