Catalog Librarian, University of Houston-Clear Lake

The Catalog Librarian manages all cataloging activities including original cataloging, copy cataloging, and the cataloging of electronic resources. The cataloger is responsible for the maintenance of all MARC bibliographic and item level records in the library’s integrated library system (Innovative Interfaces, Inc.) and in the national OCLC database. This position also manages the federal and state depository collections.  In addition, the cataloger supervises and trains the cataloging paraprofessional, oversees their work, and monitors their workflow.  This person also participates in collection development and University shared governance activities. Requires 6-7 consecutive hours of computer-intensive work daily. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution with two years of cataloging experience using AACR2 in an online environment.

 

 

Preferred Requirements:

Experience with or training in the use of OCLC Connexion and Innovative ILS. Knowledge of resource discovery systems and eBook acquisitions models. Knowledge of XML-based metadata standards such Dublin Core.  Reading knowledge of one or more foreign languages.
