We have been relying on microfiche as backup for print journals because of space issues, but I just found out that NAPC lost the rights to film Elsevier journals, starting in 2016. So, we need to rethink this.
Our microfiche is also not used much, but we have a microfiche scanner that converts microfiche into pdf for e-mailing…

Since we moved our entire microfilm collection from cabinets into our automated retrieval system over a year ago, the number of circs has been in the single digits (the few checkouts were though ILL), with a little over 100 items having at least some use (requested from storage, used by a patron or for ILL purposes?).

Do libraries see anyone utilizing their microfilm/fiche? I myself do not have enough data to make a determination for my library but I could see viability in removing it for more space.

Hello,
We recently made the decision to remove all of the ERIC microfiche from our library’s collection, after determining that there were an adequate number of other institutions in the area that still have it (and are committed to retaining it) and also due to what was essentially no use of the collection/the desire for more space for students. Before we move forward with physically removing the materials (they are out of OCLC and the catalog) is there anything that we should do? Someone to contact who may have use for the collection?
Any input/advice is welcomed, if others have been in a similar situation with ERIC or runs like this.
