Similar to Portland State, we have one barcode for each title still coming in print and as loose issues are reshelved, the barcode is scanned as in-house use.
At a previous library, we kept use statistics by hand, making a list each day of issues being reshelved, but it wasn’t as big a collection. Automate as much as possible.

At Portland State, we create item records for each loose issue and barcode the loose issues. The barcodes are scanned as re-shelved for internal use. We also check-out periodical issues and bound volumes on limited loan so there are also
standard loans collected as well.
This allows us to compile annual usage of print issues/journals.
