I am doing this survey right now as well.  I have boxes for return by the loose periodical sections asking students to return the item to the box when they have finished reading the journal.

It has been my experience that, while some stats do get collected, most students simply prefer to shelve the item back themselves.  Statistics remain very under represented.

If anyone does find a better way, please let me know too.

Thanks.

I have been asked to gather usage statistics for current unbound issues which are on open shelves.  Does anyone have any good ideas for how this might be done?  We still have around 800 titles that have current issues in print.
