Hi Abbigail,

I think the document that Marcus sent you contains our experiences here, there were no predictive patterns when we went live with Alma so we just had to live with it, however it hasn't caused us any problems, mainly because the biggest positive we were hoping for with predictive patterns is the ability to claim individual issues - however there was a bug in this (which I believe is not due to be fixed until Q3 2017) using predictive patterns which causes problems with the claims list. Until that is fixed we won't revisit the predictive patterns as they are too time-consuming and have only a small benefit to us.

I would suggest looking at the pro's and con's for yourself in terms of workloads, and don't just assume that predictive patterns are the way to go (they may be for you but I would keep an open mind)

Hope this helps

Joanne

Dear SerialSTers,

My library is soon migrating to Alma.  We have Voyager now and I am only familiar with doing serials in Voyager.  The way you do serials in Alma is, frankly, confusing to me even with the trainings.  I don’t feel like I have a firm grasp of it.  Has anyone done Alma training with serials staff not using the official Alma training videos? Would you be willing to share insight or training materials?  The thing I’m having the most trouble with is setting up predictive patterns.
