This never came to fruition but in the early days of digitization on our campus the digitization center was located in the library (but not a library department). One idea floated at the time was to utilize that department to provide digitization services to local companies. Now that portions of some of this work has transitioned to digital scholarship, etc. departments in libraries, maybe that sort of possibility would be available to you.
