Our Library Systems department usually does this work.  Here is their reply (aside from cellphones off a wi-fi connection or tethering a laptop to a cellphones 4G connection):

  1. In our EZProxy config.txt my work computer’s IP address is set to always login to the proxy, even though it’s off-campus. This is the easiest way to check, but isn’t a complete/accurate test, so I only use it in certain scenarios

  1. Systems has a browserstack subscription, which allows you to spin up different web browsers off-campus easily. I use that probably most of the time to check

  1. I also have a personal server hosted by linode running a Squid proxy instance. In the past I’ve connected to that, using the computer’s network proxy settings, to mimic being off-campus. I use this pretty rarely just because it takes a little longer to configure than the other two. Though this approach was how we turned 334 into an “off-campus classroom” way back in summer 2016 during that testing session we had before go-live.

Subject: [SERIALST] Checking off campus access of E-Resources

We are trying to figure out the best way to check off campus access of our electronic resources when we are ON campus.  We use EZ Proxy for authentication off campus.  If you would share how your institution checks access when your users call with problems, or when you are performing setup or general checking of resources.

If you could also say who performs the checking when problem notices come in.  Is it the electronic resources person, reference librarian on duty, help desk person … ?

Thank you for your input.
