Hello Serial Cataloger Colleagues,
I have a question about 863/866 usage that I hope someone can help with. I’m reviewing MARC holdings records which contain both 853/863s and also “bonus” 866 fields. For example:
=853 03$81$av.$i(year)
=863 30$81.1$a1-3$i1945-1954
=863 30$81.2$a5-15$i1967-1997
=866 \0$880$zIncomplete volumes: v.3 (1954), v.15 (1997)
=866 \0$892$zEach volume searchable by individual title.
=866 \0$xAnalyzed
=866 \0$xGift subscription.
My questions are:
1.
Are the 866$8 contents formatted correctly, where present?
2.
Is it correct to express $x and $z notes in 866 fields lacking $a contents. In the example above, how is this information best expressed? Should it be expressed in
863$x$z where appropriate? If so, would duplication of data (“Analyzed”, “Gift subscription”) be an issue, for example, in an ILS public display?
3.
Given the data above, how best to organize it?
