Our library is in discussions with Newspaperarchive.com to have some of our newspaper microfilm collection digitized by them to add to their product’s resources. In return, we will receive copies of the digitized content to keep for ourselves. One of the questions we had was that we were told that each reel on average would take up 30 GB. In trying to estimate the storage capacity we would need on a server, that seemed like an awful lot for one reel. For others who have digitized newspaper microfilm, does that estimate sound right? Please let me know what your experience has been and if that estimated file size is accurate.
