I believe the answer is the fact that NA Publishing was a spin off from Gale. Some of the employees at Gale saw an opportunity and set up their own shop. Possibly with some titles that had been Gale’s.
They also created Reveal Digital which managed to make it out of the NA Publishing saga and is now with Ithaka, the Melon funded organization that developed JSTOR and ArtStor.
On a related note, has anyone done something about getting microfiche/film of the titles the NA Publishing was producing? Am I correct that we don’t have the rights to just have those titles microfilmed
without the publishers’ permission?

We received our mysterious letter and random reels today. My supervisor and I took the investigation a step further. He knew that we subscribe to both the
Times and Sunday Times (both London) on microfilm through Primary Source Media (an affiliate of Gale). I examined one of the reels, and all publishing and copyright signs point to Primary Source/Gale as the micropublisher and copyright holder
of the film. So, now the question remains, how did this end up in an NAPubCo vault? I am going to reach out to our Primary Source Media rep with this information. Will share any useful information with the list.

However, there was an interesting note in with the rolls from Brewster Kahle of the Internet Archive. He explained the Internet Archive had purchased the NA Publishing microfilm collection. He said they had found these unsent rolls in the vault and so were sending them along hoping they are of use to us.
He went on to say they are digitizing the microfilm they purchased. He wonders if we are interested in digital versions of the film and they are unsure what they will do with the digital files. He goes on to solicit suggestions of what they might do with the collection.
