Good morning,

Our library has definitely reduced our binding, and now only binds materials that do not have an electronic archive.  We have found that purchasing metal holders or cardboard binding boxes for the shelves work just fine for loose materials.  I agree that plastic bags are not ideal given moisture and humidity, it would invite mold.

Good luck,

Good Morning,

It would depend on how low you wish to preserve your materials, and how heavily used they are. If you plan to discard these issues within a few years and they are not heavily used plastic bags may work short term for some items. But, if you plan to preserve items for long term use binding is the best way to go of the 2 options mentioned. There are inherent problems associated with plastic bags that normally would exclude using them for this purpose. Plastic bags typically do not hold up under much usage and brings into question whether materials should be placed in them at all as heat and humidity creates moisture in them which brings on a whole other set of problems. I hope this has helped!

Good morning,

This is regarding the binding process. 2018 and 2019 titles are still unbound in  our library. Therefore we are facing two controversial issues.

a-Binding the issues  will produce a budget problem .

b-Not binding the 2018 and 2019 issues and relying on economical  plastic  bags (For a package of 100 bags( size A4) the price will be $12;For a package of 100 bags( size A3) the price will be $15)  .

do you think that plastic bags are a good solution ?

Thank you for your help.
