The University Library at the University of California, Santa Cruz seeks a motivated individual to take a leadership role in the management of the library’s electronic resources.  The Electronic Resources Manager will develop, recommend, and implement an updated management strategy for all of the library’s electronic resources. This will include record maintenance for the entire complex life cycles of serials, ebooks, datasets, and streaming video. 


The Electronic Resources Manager will implement and administer tools, features, and programs that enhance and improve electronic resource access and usability including the utilization of electronic resource management functions in Alma, the cloud-based library services platform. They will work collaboratively with library staff, vendors, and campus ITS staff to ensure convenient, seamless, and uninterrupted access to electronic resources. 


Some travel to Santa Cruz will be required, however this position has the potential to be a remote-work/telecommute position.


Responsibilities:

  • Load and coordinate the management of the electronic consortial bibliographic records in Alma/Primo VE databases

  • Serve as the library liaison with the California Digital Library (CDL) for subscription and access-related issues

  • Design and manage workflows for loading and license management for locally purchased subscriptions

  • Create and maintain Alma import profiles, normalization, merge, and indication rules

  • Manage and troubleshoot Alma record loads

  • Manage service tickets for electronic resource related issues

  • Stay informed of system-wide issues and advocate based on common difficulties

  • Troubleshoot and explore solutions for electronic resource management workflows and processes

  • Craft and maintain policies or best practices related to electronic resource management in collaboration with various stakeholder groups

  • Identify and rectify issues created by serial title changes, merges, and splits

  • Create and maintain collection-related report templates for annual reporting

  • Collaborate with staff who run analyses of consortia-wide collections for shared retention commitments and collaborative collection development

  • Serve on department, library, university, and UC systemwide committees


Requirements:

  • An ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree (or equivalent foreign degree); or Master’s degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in a relevant field, including but not limited to Computer Science or Information Management. The degree must be completed at the time of application.

  • Two years’ experience with library systems Alma, the Primo Central Index, and/or Primo VE.

  • Experience performing the management and acquisition of electronic resources in an academic or research library or an academic library consortium.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Ex Libris Consortial Network Zone

  • Experience working within a library consortium or system

  • Experience with EZ-Proxy, SFX, and other ER related applications

  • Technical aptitude and ability to learn new programs as necessary

Salary:

$55,014 - $84,260, commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Duration of the Position:

Initial appointment will be full-time for two years. Temporary appointments have a specified date of termination of two years or less in accordance with Article 18 Temporary Appointees of the UC-AFT labor contract. In accordance with policy, the selected candidate will undergo the Librarian Peer Review process where his/her performance will be reviewed and assessed. If the selected candidate is later appointed to a permanent position with potential career status, time spent in this temporary status will be considered when determining assignment to rank and salary point.
