Core e-Forum: Changes in library organization

March 2-3, 2021

Moderated by Susan Martin and David Schuster

Please join us for an e-forum discussion. It’s free and open to everyone!

Registration information is at the end of the message.

Each day, discussion begins and ends at:

Pacific: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Mountain: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Central: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Eastern: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Organizations rarely remain static and must change as their mission and goals change. The traditional library as a print repository is changing as we retool librarianship and traditional library roles. Libraries are adapting their services to meet the needs of the post-pandemic campus, as well as supporting the changing needs of teaching and emerging scholarship (e.g. text and data mining, data curation, and preservation).

Hosts

Susan Martin is the Collection Development and Management department chair in the James E. Walker Library at Middle Tennessee State University. Prior to this, she was the Head of Acquisitions Services at The University of Chicago Library. Her professional interests include workflow efficiency, recruitment, retention, and development of staff. She has been re-organized many times during her professional career. In her spare time, she enjoys traditional librarian pursuits, such as book collecting, knitting, and cats, none of which require organizational change.

David Schuster is the Interim Associate University Librarian for Library Technical Services, Technology and Special Collections at Binghamton University in Binghamton NY. Prior to this appointment, he was Director of Library Technology and Special Collections at Binghamton. The Binghamton Libraries are starting to explore a new strategic plan which will inevitably bring change to how libraries are organized and viewed on campus. In his spare time, he enjoys camping, reading mysteries, and gardening.

What Is an e-Forum?

A Core e-forum provides an opportunity for librarians to discuss matters of interest, led by a moderator, through the e-forum discussion list. The e-forum discussion list works like an email listserv: register your email address with the list, and then you will receive messages and communicate with other participants through an email discussion. Most e-forums last two to three days. Registration is necessary to participate, but it's free.

For information about upcoming e-forums, please visit http://www.ala.org/core/e-forums

How to Register

You must register your email address to subscribe to or access an electronic discussion list on ALA's Mailing List Service. Once you have registered for one e-forum, you do not need to register again, unless you choose to leave the list. Find instructions for subscribing and unsubscribing online.
