Subject: 780 785 tags

Hello to everyone:
This is the first time that I have posted. I am not a librarian, but have
been put in the position of maintaining our library serials records after
the retirement of our Serials Librarian. Recently, our Cataloguer has asked
me to remove 780 and 785 tags from our records if we do not have the
continues or continued by titles, because they show up as dead links in our
online catalogue. I know that the former Serials Librarian would have
fought this request as the 780 and 785 tags are correct form for a complete
and accurate bib record, but I don't feel like I have much of a leg to
stand on since I am not a librarian. Is it acceptable to delete these tags?
The Cataloguing Librarian has suggested that if I really want to include
the information, that I put it in a note field. All opinions are appreciated.
Thanks
Cyndie
