Entry-Level Librarian Positions

Reference

Are you an energetic, user-centered librarian looking for an opportunity to
provide user assistance and education through reference desk service,
individual consultations, instruction, and other outreach activities?  Would
you like to provide liaison with one or more academic departments, be part
of collection development and contribute to specialized instruction?  Do you
have a commitment to the integration of the library into the teaching and
research mission of a university? We invite you to apply for two reference
positions where you will be assigned according to the library's needs and
your background.

Acquisitions/Cataloging

Are you eager to gain broad technical services experience?  Do you have lots
of initiative and good problem-solving skills?  Do you like the idea of
helping reshape a technical services department for maximum effectiveness?
Are you ready to supervise classified staff members?  We invite you to apply
for two positions providing acquisitions, serials control, and/or cataloging
functions, including authority control.  Depending upon your interests and
background, you will have responsibility for one or more of the areas
mentioned.

If you are willing to participate in the library's efforts to improve and
extend its instruction program, if you want to grow professionally and are
ready to contribute to future directions for the library, if you desire to
pursue scholarship, continuing education, and service activities, are
accomplished with computers and integrated library systems, submit your
application immediately.

Qualifications for the positions include: knowledge of and some experience
with electronic and traditional reference sources OR cataloging and online
bibliographic tools; a strong commitment to undergraduate user education;
demonstrated ability with microcomputers, web-based applications, and OCLC
(or similar utility); superior communication skills; and the initiative,
creativity, and energy to be effective in a rapidly changing environment.
An ALA-accredited MLS is required. Each of these positions reports to a
senior librarian and some supervision of others may be required.

Trinity University is one of the premier liberal arts institutions in the
nation, supporting approximately 2500 students with excellent faculty,
facilities, and library.  The Coates Library contains nearly 900,000 volumes
in addition to substantial electronic resources and other media.  San
Antonio, a favorite national conference site, is a culturally diverse
metropolitan area of one million people which boasts a low cost of living.

These will be term, twelve-month appointments to library faculty positions
with the possibility of tenure-track.  Benefits include TIAA/CREF (pending
qualification) with substantial fringes and development support.  Positions
