POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

SERIALS LIBRARIAN,  Fordham University Library, Bronx, NY

Under the direction of the Head of the Serials Department, performs a
variety of tasks concerning the acquisition, cataloging, and management of
a large collection of serials/periodicals.

Primary duties include:
Original and copy cataloging of all types of serial publications in
different formats (including electronic journals), languages and subjects,
using AACR2, Marc records, Library of Congress classification and subject
headings; Handling of all procedures necessitated by bibliographical
changes of serial publications (title and frequency changes, cessations,
splits and mergers, etc.);
Managing the creation and maintenance of serial bibliographical, holdings,
and check-in data records in the DRA library system and in the local
Serials Information Database (SID) used to produce printed Serials List;
Adding and updating serial holdings statements (Local Data Records) in the
OCLC Union Serials List;
Helping to identify, research and resolve complex serials cataloging,
acquisition and holdings problems;
Carrying out special projects related to serials management as it becomes
necessary

Qualifications:
Master's degree in Library Science, additional Master's degree is
desirable. Cataloging experience (preferably of serials), familiarity with
a bibliographical utility (preferably OCLC) and with an automated library
system, particularly with serials and acquisitions applications
(preferably DRA system). Must have previous experience and proven ability
to work with complex serial/periodical materials which require high level
of attention to detail. Ability to accept technological changes and work
successfully in a rapidly developing computerized environment. Prefer
previous experience providing access to electronic journals, knowledge of
Internet search engines and web navigation. Knowledge of Microsoft Access
is desirable.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
