The University of North Dakota Libraries Vacancy Announcement POSITION: Librarian/Documents and Periodicals Department Head Position #: (2466) RANK: Academic Librarian SALARY: $40,000 POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for administration and management of the Government Documents, Periodicals and the Patent and Trademark collections at the Chester Fritz Library, University of North Dakota. This position offers the opportunity to manage diverse activities involving public services and technical processing for important collections supporting academic programs and regional public interest. Participates in reference services and collection management; manages automated serials control; supervises 7 FTE staff and additional student workers; participates in professional activities. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Libraries. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Graduate Degree from an ALA accredited MLS or equivalent degree; Minimum 3 years of professional library experience; Two years supervisory experience; Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Preferred: Two years experience in government documents, periodicals management and/or patent and trademark libraries; experience in an academic research library; experience with a library automation system; experience in collection management. LIBRARY: The holdings of the University Libraries exceed two million items. The Library is a joint regional depository for U.S. Documents, a designated depository library for U. S. Patents and Trademarks, and a depository for North Dakota State Documents. In addition to the Chester Fritz Library, other library facilities include departmental libraries in geology, energy research, and music, as well as the Thormodsgard Law Library and the Harley E. French Library of the Health Sciences. The Library and its staff serve 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Library participates in OCLC, MINITEX, the On-line Dakota Information Network (ODIN), and the libraries have implemented the public access catalog, cataloging, circulation and acquisitions functions of the PALS SYSTEM.
