The Maryland Historical Society Library has the following part-time
one-year position:

Position title: Serials Access Assistant
Reports to: Associate Director for Technical Services
Salary: $8.00 per hr., 14-21 hrs. per week (to be scheduled M-F, 9:00
a.m.-5:00 p.m.)

Purpose
To assist in setting up the new Serials module of our integrated library
system so that check in and claiming functions are working accurately;
add holdings information; verify contents of microfilms of newspapers.

Areas of Responsibility
--Locates records for serials and standing orders in the Catalog module
and verifies they are in correct format.
--Adds retention policies, cost, vendor, publication pattern, and other
specific information to serials records.
--Adds holdings information in specified format to serials records.
--Works with stacks and preservation staff to develop a list of all
journal and newspaper holdings for reporting to the Union List of
Periodicals in Maryland.
--Verifies exact contents of microfilms received from the American
Antiquarian Society�s Newspaper Project.

Education/Training
Bachelor's degree or extensive experience using a library for in depth
research.

Experience/Skills Requirements
--Knowledge of library online systems.
--Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
--Ability to maintain concentration for long periods.
