            The Top Management Roundtable (TMR) brings together
            leaders in scholarly publishing to focus on timely issues
            with long-range strategic implications. Limited
            attendance and a stimulating program allow for a lively,
            free, and full exchange of ideas by all participants. The
            2000 TMR will continue the successes of recent TMRs,
            which have addressed:

            Online Enters Puberty: How to Survive the Adolescence of
            Electronic Publishing
            Electronic Information: Debates in Ownership and Access
            Economics of Scholarly Publishing Today
            Tools for Change
            Assessing Forces Likely to Transform Scholarly Publishing in
            the Next 5 Years

             This year's TMR will take a close look at the state of the
            "art" � we will examine the current spate of differing
            models for scholarly communication arising both from
            inside and outside the publishing community. We'll look
            at the economic bases on which they are built and see
            what's new and what's simply been revived in a new
            cloak. Many of the new online features and paradigms
            we'll examine have an impact on diverse segments of
            our industry: Can we afford all the added features
            needed to be at the cutting edge? What is the role of
            the secondary publisher in a world with online reference
            linking? How will our direct marketing change when it is
            no longer one-to-many print but one-to-one on the
            Internet? Where are back volume and reprint sales if
            online archives are free?

            Lots to discuss, lots to question, and a few
            prognostications tossed in for good measure.
