Millar Library RANK/TITLE: Assistant Professor (non-renewable fixed-term position) RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Head of the Cataloging Section, and working in close consultation with the Head Cataloger, Documents Librarian, and Serials Cataloger, the Serials Documents Catalog Librarian will focus on U.S. government document serial and monographic bibliographic records received and uploaded from a commercial source. Duties include: Project planning and management Supervising one full-time library technician and one student assistant assigned to the project. Upgrading records where needed Deleting from the Librarys on-line catalog those records for items missing or already cataloged and shelved in the Librarys general stacks. Developing procedures for the continued cataloging of government documents serials. Writing reports on the progress of the project QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA accredited MLS degree and a demonstrated interest in cataloging principles and processes using an on-line system. Three years experience in academic libraries. Creativity and ability to identify opportunities and solve problems; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work effectively in a group environment; a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in cataloging. Desirable: Experience in working with MARCIVE records or with document collections is highly desirable. Portland State University Library is a federal regional depository library with 360,000 U.S. documents in the documents collection. The above position is part of a federally funded project to provide on-line bibliographic access for the documents collection. SALARY AND BENEFITS: This is a full-time, 12-month fixed term position funded by a two-year IMLS grant, with an annual 1.0 FTE salary of $39,500 effective December 1, 2000. Full time benefits include 22 paid vacation days and 12 paid sick leave days per year, a choice of retirement and group health plans, and staff tuition rates, etc. APPLICATION DEADLINE: October 30, 2000 for priority consideration.
