The successful candidate will have broad responsibilities for the supervision, planning, and implementation of the acquisitions, serials, and preservation functions, which includes 9 FTE staff. Additional duties include the coordination of digitization projects and workflow for the University Libraries and to act as a resource person for automation in the Collection Management department. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Collection Management. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: MLS from an ALA accredited program; minimum of 3 years of professional academic library experience in Acquisitions and/or Serials; supervisory experience; demonstrated evidence of excellent organizational skills; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work both cooperatively and independently. Preferred: Proficiency with electronic technology including experience with electronic information resources; familiarity with digital library technologies. RANK AND SALARY: Assistant or Associate University Librarian; salary range of $36,000 - $45,000, commensurate with rank, qualifications, and experience. BENEFITS: 22 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave per year; TIAA/CREF or other retirement options, health/life insurance options. LIBRARY SETTING: The new 8-story Green Library, located at the FIU University Park Campus, is designed to accommodate state-of-the-art information technology. The FIU Biscayne Bay Campus, thirty miles away, also has a state-of-the-art library. The total library collections comprise more than 1.4 million volumes and subscriptions to more than 9,910 scholarly journals. The libraries also provide access to over 170 databases and services, including statewide OPAC (NOTIS) with mounted databases and gateways to remote services; CDs; LEXIS-NEXIS, RLIN, Internet/WWW access, and numerous digital library services. The 2000/01 Library materials budget is $5M.
