---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 07:55:24 -0800 From: Yvonne Wei Zhang <ywzhang@CSUPOMONA.EDU> Subject: Job ads. from Cal Poly Pomona California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Human Resource Services 3801 West Temple Avenue, Bldg. 98/Room B1-20 Pomona, CA 91768 Phone: (909) 869-3733 24-Hour Job Line: (909) 869-2100 Website: http://www.csupomona.edu/~hrs #00-AC-194 Library Assistant I University Library, Bibliographic Access Services (BAS) Full time, Probationary Resume Required $2,371 - $3,093 per month Closing Date: 11/27/00 Under direction of the Monographs and Serials Coordinators, the Library Assistant I will perform the following monograph and serial functions: perform monograph cataloging such as verification of PromptCat titles, including Library of Congress (DLC), Cataloging in Publication (CIP), contributed copy including Internet resources; verify spelling, indicators and access points affecting retrieval on OPAC and make appropriate corrections; perform basic searching on OCLC for correct bibliographic record; verify name, series, subject headings, call numbers, and bibliographic description of each title to ensure access by library users; download selected records onto the OCLC CATME+ software for new monograph titles received; input bibliographic records including University Master's Thesis/Projects into OPAC: review and verify request for ordering new titles; research orders on OPAC to prevent duplicate orders; serve as liaison person with vendors; assist with invoice approval and posting; serve as backup for all rush orders including ordering, cataloging, special handling and availability notification to patrons; create order records for all special order purchases; resolve discrepancies on orders; process added volumes to the OPAC; perform periodical check-in and record receipt of periodical titles using the OPAC serial check-in module; verify received titles to ensure match with bibliographic record; perform serials check-ins (added volumes); HEGIS maintenance; create and review in INNOPAC a periodical claim file for assigned HEGIS areas on a weekly basis; set up new standing orders; sort, batch and distribute mail; and perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Three years library clerical assistant experience OR 2 years library clerical assistant experience with 2 years (60 units) of coursework OR 1 year library clerical assistant experience with 4 years (120 units) of coursework OR completion of a Library Assistant training program. Working knowledge of library terminology, general bibliographic forms and structures, library computer applications. Ability to work accurately with attention to detail; use discretion in applying rules, regulations, and procedures; communicate effectively using standard English; work cooperatively with others; use wordprocessing equipment; read and write English at a level appropriate to the position; ability to apply rules in accordance with policy, regulations and procedures under varying circumstances; provide standard information on library policies and procedures to library users. Specialized Skills Desired: Experience in an academic library and experience with monograph ordering; invoice approval and posting, periodical/serial checkins and claims, Innovative Interface, Inc. integrated library automation system, and OCLC CatME software. Basic knowledge and understanding of monograph cataloging and ordering; working knowledge of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2); one year of hands-on monographs cataloging experience; working knowledge of OCLC: good organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities; accuracy and flexibility; ability to work in a team environment and complete work assignments within deadlines.
