Germaine,
We make a point of paying attention to where the table of contents and
the title pages for a volume fall. We always ask our binding company to
remove it from the back and insert it into the front of the volume when
it is being bound. We do this because its easier for our clients to find
the T/C in the volume if they are at the front of the volume In turn,
it makes it easier for them to locate an article or case more quickly.

We also move the table of contents from each issue if needed and bind
that in the front in lieu of a full table of contents.

I hope that gives you an idea of how we rationalize the movement of
these pages from the back or front of each part, to the front of the volume.

To List Members:

I am sending this request to the Serials Listserv because, in my experience,
most Binding Units come under the pervue of Serials Departments.
How many of your binding operations pay attention to Title Pages and
Tables of Contents that are often included in the last issue of a journal
volume? Do you remove them and have them bound at the beginning of the volume?
Or do you ignore them. I would appreciate learning of your rationale for
whichever decision you have made. Thank you for your help.

We have title pages and TOC bound in front of the volume, indexes bound at
the end.
