Libraries and Learning Technologies of the American University in Cairo
invites applications for the following position:

DIRECTOR OF COLLECTION MANAGEMENT:  Faculty position reporting to Dean of
Libraries and Learning Technologies. Responsibilities: Leads, manages and
supervises the Library�s Collection Management, Serials, and Acquisitions
departments. Holds fiscal control and allocation of Book, Serials,
Electronic Resources, and Multimedia budget lines. Prepares budget
requests. Develops and maintains Collection Management policies. Monitors
and evaluates Library�s collection in relation to university teaching and
research programs.  Qualifications: Master�s degree from ALA/LC accredited
program or equivalent required. Additional Masters desirable, minimum 5
years professional experience and significant supervisory experience
required. Computer literacy and experience with integrated library systems

Note: Position requires excellent oral and written communication skills in
English; additional skills in Arabic and other languages useful.

THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIRO (AUC) is a liberal arts college of
approximately 4500 students, with almost 600 students at the master�s
degree level. All instruction is in English. AUC is chartered in the
United States and is accredited by the Middle States Association of
Colleges and Libraries.

The AUC Libraries have over 297,000 volumes, approximately 2000 current
periodical subscriptions, 80 databases, and 116,000 microform units. AUC
is an RLG/SHARES member.

Appointments/Salary:  This is a full-time (11 month), two-year faculty
appointment. The position will be available as of September 1, 2001.
Renewal of an appointment depends upon institutional needs and the
appointee�s performance.  Salary is according to scale based on
qualifications and experience. Benefits include 30 working days home
leave, housing, round-trip air travel for appointee and accompanying
family members, plus schooling for up to two children. In view of AUC�s
protocol agreement with the Egyptian government, which requires specific
proportions of Egyptian, U.S. and third-country citizen faculty, at this
time preference will be given to qualified applicants who are U.S.
citizens.
