Head of Technical Services - Search Extended

(Formerly advertised as Manager of Bibliographic Support)

Trinity University's Coates Library seeks applications for the position
of
Head of Technical Services.  This is a senior level position which
reports
directly to the library director and serves as part of the library's
management team.  The technical services department consists of serials,
acquisitions, and cataloging units.  Staffing includes two to three
professional librarians, 17 FTE classified staff, and numerous student
workers.

Required Qualifications:
An ALA-accredited MLS degree; minimum of 5 years' academic library
experience in progressively responsible technical services positions;
management of at least one major technical services function, including
supervision of professional and classified staff; thorough knowledge of
online integrated library systems (preferably Voyager), AACR2r, LCSH, LC
classification schedules, OCLC, and Cataloger's Desktop; experience with
name, subject, and series authority control; monographic or serials
acquisitions experience; familiarity with national issues and trends in
technical services; experience in motivating and mentoring others and
functioning in a team-oriented environment; a record of active
professional
service; ability to interact well with library users, professional
colleagues, and all levels of staff; and ability to view issues from a
broad, campus-wide perspective.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with fiscal management in an automated environment;
experience
purchasing, licensing or cataloging electronic resources; strong
commitment
to staff development; desire to understand the needs and preferences of
Trinity users, to find innovative methods for meeting them, and to
balance
those requirements with current budgets; and evidence of research,
creative
achievement, or continuing professional development.

Trinity University is one of the premier liberal arts institutions in
the
nation, supporting approximately 2500 students with excellent faculty,
facilities, and library.  The Coates Library contains nearly 900,000
volumes
in addition to substantial electronic resources and other media.

San Antonio, a favorite national conference site, is a culturally
diverse
metropolitan area of one million people that boasts a low cost of
living.

Position is twelve-month faculty appointment with tenure-track.  Salary
is
mid-to-upper 40s.  Benefits include TIAA/CREF (pending qualification)
